Gordon Davis:  1942 - 2003

Gordie Davis was part-owner and a Director of the Vancouver Bridge Centre.  In 1985  he had major heart surgery and was faced with life-style changes.  He had been a skilled pool player and spent the rest of his time smoking, playing bridge, directing club bridge (his nickname was "play on Gordie"), attending the activities at Hasting Park Race Track - and often winning, solving very difficult crossword puzzles (up to and including the London Times daily crossword!), playing winning Pub Trivial Pursuit and drinking at the Jolly Alderman.  In order to accommodate his new health issues, he gave up playing pool professionally.

Two years later, his daughter Amanda was born and she became the centre of his life. The rest of his activities were worked in around her schedules. Gordie was unassuming but anyone who spent time with him quickly realized how much personal depth he had.  Those of us who have known him over the past 30-35 years have lost a good friend and a fine person.

Eighteen years is a long time to live after a quadruple bypass and Gordie lived life the way he wanted to.
