The North American Pairs is your event - a grassroots effort
starting at your club and leading all the way to a North American
Championship! The ACBL has made changes to make the NAOP
more affordable and accessible for players at all levels.
Be sure to check with your club managers for dates of qualifying
games. Your NAOP partner can be any other club-qualified
player from your district.
Each club can hold two NAP (North American Pairs) games per sanctioned
session during each of the months of June, July and August. These
games award 100% sectional rated half red/half black masterpoints.
The NAP event has been a major ACBL pair championship since 1979
and was originally known as the Grand National Pairs. This grassroots
event is staged in qualifying rounds at the club, unit and district
levels. It culminates in a final held in conjunction with the
Spring NABC, which will be held in Memphis TN in 2012. The contest
is run as a flighted event: Flight A (open), Flight B (fewer than
2000 masterpoints as of the June 2011 masterpoint cycle) and Flight
C (non-Life Master with fewer than 500 masterpoints as of June
2011). Please check your June 2011 Bridge Bulletin for your masterpoint
total.
There are no unit finals in this event. All players that
qualify at the club level are eligible to play in the District
Final.

Masterpoints won in other bridge organizations, such as the ABA
and foreign organizations, must be taken into account for placement
in the appropriate flights.
Flight A Open to any player **
Flight B Players with less than 2000 MPs as of
the June masterpoint cycle. *
Flight C Non-Life Masters with fewer than 500
MPs as of the June masterpoint cycle.*
* The June masterpoint cycle is run by ACBL data processing
between May 1 and May 15. Any points won but not included in this
cycle do not affect masterpoint eligibility.
** Midchart Conventions will be allowed in Flight A Only
First place winners of the D19 Final for Flights A, B, and C
will receive $700 per person and the 2nd place winners will recieve
$300 per person to offset the expenses of attending the National
Finals at the ACBL’s NABC. Third-Place Winners are invited
to participate.
Club Qualifying Games are held in June, July,
and August.
District Final is usually held towards the end
of the year, November or December.
