The Comox Valley Duplicate Bridge Club continues to hold the most incredibly inexpensive Bridge Lessons once per month at the club. For $5.00, you can come to a 2-hour lesson and then stay for the game, paired up with a Mentor! These lessons have proven to be very popular with teachers Jack Bradshaw and Linda Marinus offering insight into using your Convention Card to develop a system with your partner. The two have designed a preprinted standard CVDBC Mentor Card that is played by all the mentors when playing with a student. Each aspect of the card is covered in depth at the lessons with examples and quizzes. Handout notes are given on each lesson so that the students can study more at home or ask questions of their mentor. It?s working well!
Another newsworthy note from the CVDBC is that Club Manager Linda Marinus decided to get a plaque made for the 70%+ games at the club. They didn?t have very many ? maybe 3 per year . No sooner was the thing designed than Jack Bradshaw and Bob Dugas proceeded to produce over 70% at the next game! We were all very impressed, and Linda called the trophy shop to have it updated already. Without even having time to pick up the newly engraved plaque, Pete Marinus and Cathy Wolfe scored over 71% the very next week! I guess it just goes to show you that if you build it, they will come!
