Toronto NABC hotel rooms offer

Anne Farmer of Seattle Nextgenbridge is holding 2 extra rooms for the NABC in Toronto at the Intercontinental- host hotel.  These are reserved as triples- but whoever needs them can adjust down or up. One is from July 26-31 and the other July 27-31. First come, first served.

It’s apparently difficult to find rooms in Toronto as there’s also a medical convention being held at the same time. Anyone who is interested should contact Anne ASAP at (206)441-7244 or email her at  [email protected]

Victoria Regional now in progress!

The 2017 Victoria Regional is currently being held at the downtown Conference Centre, adjoining the Empress Hotel.

The Tournament also features a comprehensive educational program, with an emphasis on enriching the tournament experience for bridge players who are “New to Duplicate”. We hope these players will find that tournaments are an exciting educational opportunity as well as a competitive adventure.

D19 GNT Winners

The first half of the D19 GNT contest (Open Championship and Flight B Finals) was held on March 25 and 26 at Vancouver Bridge Centre. See winners here.

The second half (Flight A and Flight C finals) will take place at Bothell, WA on April 8 and 9. Results will be announced on this page shortly after.

Victoria Regional starts April 17

The 2017 Victoria Regional will be held from April 17 to 23 at the downtown Conference Centre, adjoining the Empress Hotel.

Kirkwood Trophy final standings for 2016

The Kirkwood Trophy is awarded by District 19 each year to the resident of District 19 who wins the most masterpoints.

This year’s winner is David Westfall of Spokane, WA.

Only open Regionals in Washington State and British Columbia are counted, and as with other masterpoint races one must be an ACBL member to qualify.

Standings are calculated at the conclusion of each Regional and placed in the Wrapup edition, as well as in the first Bulletin of the next Regional.

The current list reflects the final 2016 standing after November’s Whistler Regional. It can be found under D19 Tournaments in the top menu or accessed directly by clicking here.

The Whistler Regional Tournament is starting on Monday November 7.

If you are driving to Whistler, please note that winter tires are mandatory on Hwy 99 (Sea-to-Sky) between October 1 and March 31. Bill Gates takes on the world’s top players in the greatest computer aided bridge contest of all time

The Yeh Online Bridge World Cup

There will be an online world bridge event featuring 4 mixed teams from 3 continents. The teams are each composed of one celebrity and 5 top players. The event will be publicized and viewed online as well as have spectators at each site. Players on a team will all be playing from the same location.

The USA site is Seattle at the Silver Cloud Broadway Hotel, where the BBO team will be playing. the BBO team is: Bill Gates – Sharon Osberg, Bob Hammon – Jill Myers, Fred Gitelman – Sheri Winestock. See the schedule at http://bridgeonlineworldcup.com/team-usa-bbo/.

You are welcome to visit the event at the playing site. You can see the players and watch the play form vugraph or computers. Refreshments will be served. Of course you can watch from home but it’s more exciting to attend a session.

This is a unique chance for you to be a spectator at a unique event – to watch the famous entrepreneur Bill Gates, who will start the event by playing the first match on Monday, October 31st, competing against some of the greatest bridge players in the world. He and the other top international players on the BBO team located in Seattle will take on teams from three continents in an online contest – a contest that you will have the opportunity to view in real time at the Silver Cloud Hotel, Seattle Broadway.

There will be plenty of room for spectators and refreshments will be provided. You will be able to watch the action on a big screen and listen to expert commentary by Barry Rigal and Zia Mahmood as well as from other commentators located in the other venues.

This is the first time such an exciting and innovative tournament has been staged, using the latest technology that allows the players to participate using BBO and OurGame software.
